- Poongsan has early on realized the industrial importance of titanium and
has installed a devoted tube forming line at the Bupyung Plant to produce
quality titanium tubes. Titanium products are light in weight, very strong,
and resistant to heat and corrosion. They are, therefore, widely used for
power generation, desalination, chemistry, military, aviation, and space.
Since the products are very difficult to produce or weld, they can be manufactured
only when supported by high-level tube forming technology.
- Demand for titanium tube is high in the chemical and oil refining industries
where high purity and corrosion resistance are essential. It is also used
at a nuclear or thermoelectric power plant where heat exchangers are used.
There will also be a large demand in the future from waste-water treatment
and desalination industries. To meet customers' rigorous quality requirements,
Poongsan operates modern production facilities, including tube-forming machines
and Tig-welding machines in an argon atmosphere, as well as eddy-current,
ultrasonic and pneumatic testers.
- Since the early 1980's, Poongsan's titanium tubes have been supplied to
large-scale power generation and desalination projects, including Libya's
Misurata Desalination Project. The tubes are also supplied in quantity to
large nuclear power plants. Poongsan's technology and product quality are
well appreciated and, in 1994, the company got the "Plant for Titanium
Tube Manufacture" certificate from DNV-QA.
